This 2012 original exhibition poster by Willi Baumeister features an abstract composition of biomorphic shapes and bold color fields. It was produced for his "Gemälde und Zeichnungen" (Paintings and Drawings) showcase at the Kunstmuseum Winterthur in Switzerland.
Willi Baumeister (1889-1955) was a German painter and theorist and a key figure of European abstraction. He taught at the Frankfurt School of Applied Arts until he was banned by the Nazis and his work was labeled "degenerate."
His style evolved from Constructivism to organic abstraction, using simplified forms, earthy colors, and textured surfaces. Baumeister sought universal visual principles beyond representation, strongly influencing postwar abstract art.
