This original art poster is from the Royal Academy of Arts for the 2022 exhibition Kyōsai: The Israel Goldman Collection. It features one of Kawanabe Kyōsai's most iconic works, a solitary crow perched on a withered branch, a subject that established his fame and won him the top prize for painting in 1881.
It is in near mint condition.
Kawanabe Kyōsai (1831-1889) was a Japanese painter and printmaker of the late Edo and early Meiji periods. He studied traditional painting and was influenced by both ukiyo-e and Chinese painting styles.
His style is known for bold brushwork, dynamic compositions, and a mix of humor and satire. Kyōsai often depicted historical scenes, folklore, and the supernatural, blending expressive realism with imaginative exaggeration.
